Straight Talking

We only recommend a new roof when a repair genuinely won't do

Re-roofing is the most profitable job in this trade, which is exactly why so many surveys conclude that you need one. Ours often conclude the opposite. A good proportion of the roofs we are called out to look at have another decade in them and need flashing work, a few tiles or some repointing instead.

You will get that assessment in writing whichever way it falls, along with a rough idea of how much longer the existing covering should last. If that means we quote you for four hundred pounds of repairs rather than a five-figure re-roof, so be it. We would rather have the referral in three years than the job today.

What We Install

Roof replacement options for Bristol homes

Four different jobs with four different specifications. What suits a Victorian terrace in Totterdown is not what suits a 1970s semi in Hengrove.
Full pitched roof replacement

Strip, repair and re-cover

The complete job on a main roof. Old covering stripped and taken away, the timber structure inspected while it is exposed, then a new membrane, battens and covering fitted from eaves to ridge with all the detail work renewed at the same time.
Slate re-roof

Natural and fibre cement slate

Bristol has a great many slate roofs at the age where the nails go before the slate does. Where the material is still sound we salvage and relay it, which keeps the character of the elevation and takes a meaningful chunk off the bill.
Tile re-roof

New tiled roof, concrete or clay

The most common re-roof we carry out across Bristol. Concrete interlocking tiles give the best value per square metre; clay plain tiles cost more but age far better and look right on older properties.
Garage roof replacement

Flat roofs on garages and outbuildings

Smaller structures, but the same principle applies: if the deck underneath has gone soft, covering over it only buys a season. We strip back to timber, replace what has failed and lay a system chosen for how long you actually want it to last.
What To Expect

What a re-roof in Bristol actually looks like, day by day

Typical programme for a three-bedroom semi. Larger roofs with valleys, dormers or multiple chimneys run longer, and we say so at quotation stage rather than on day four.

Scaffold goes up

Erected by our scaffolders, signed off, and positioned to keep your access and your neighbour's clear. We let adjoining properties know beforehand as a matter of course.

Strip and inspect

Old covering comes off in sections into a chute and skip, never over the garden. With the roof open we assess the timbers and show you anything that needs attention before it is covered again.

Membrane, battens, covering

The new build-up goes on section by section so the house is never left exposed. Sheeted down each evening and whenever the forecast turns.

Detail, clear and hand over

Ridge, verges, lead and rainwater goods finished, the site swept and magnet-rolled for nails, then a walk round with you before the scaffold comes down.

Find out whether you need a new roof or a morning's work

The survey costs nothing and takes about an hour. You will get a written assessment either way, and no follow-up calls chasing a decision.

Client Feedback

Bristol roof installers you can go and check up on

A re-roof is a serious amount of money to hand over. Ask us for addresses of recent work in your area and we will happily give you some to drive past.
Areas Covered

Re-roofing across Bristol, Keynsham and Bath

Our yard is at Queen Charlton on the edge of Keynsham, so materials and crew come from a few miles away rather than a depot in another county. On a job that runs a week, that is the difference between a delay costing an afternoon and costing three days.

Got Questions

New roof costs and questions, answered

The things people ask us before booking a survey.
How much does a new roof cost in Bristol?
The figure is driven by roof area, pitch, the covering you choose, how much timber needs replacing once the old covering comes off, and the scaffold required. Those five variables differ on every property, so we survey first and issue one written price rather than publishing an average that will not apply to your house.
Concrete tiles typically give 40 to 60 years, clay tiles often longer, and natural slate can pass a century when it has been fixed correctly. The membrane, battens and fixings underneath matter every bit as much as the covering, which is why we specify them properly rather than to a minimum.
A standard three-bedroom semi usually runs to four or five working days once the scaffold is up, plus a day either side for erection and dismantling. Roofs with valleys, dormers and multiple chimneys take longer, and we say so before you commit.
Like-for-like re-roofing normally falls under permitted development. Listed buildings, conservation areas and any change to the roof profile or material are the exceptions. We flag anything requiring consent at survey stage, not partway through the job.
Yes. We strip and cover in manageable sections and sheet the roof overnight, so the property is never left open to the weather. Sustained heavy rain or high wind will pause work on safety grounds, and that allowance is built into the programme.
Insurers generally cover sudden damage rather than gradual wear, so a roof that has simply reached the end of its life is usually the homeowner’s cost. Where storm damage has accelerated the failure we supply photographs and a written assessment to support a claim.
We do, in felt, EPDM or fibreglass depending on the span, the pitch and how long you want it to last. Smaller jobs of this kind rarely need full scaffold, which keeps the cost down considerably.

Then that is what we will tell you and quote for. Our roof repair page sets out that side of the work, and urgent leaks are covered on our emergency page.
